Description
One gasket for each intake runner, 6 gaskets in total
Intake gaskets create an air tight seal between the intake manifold and cylinder head. This helps create the required vacuum pressure your motor needs to run properly. We recommend replacing these gaskets if you remove the intake manifold as these seals are one time use and commonly do not reseal properly.
Engine Intake Manifold Gasket SetAn engine intake manifold gasket seals the intake manifold to the cylinder head. Its primary job is to ensure that all metered air that has been taken in through the air intake system is delivered to the engine without any air being lost through a leak at the manifold to the cylinder head connection. It also keeps any unmetered air, dirt, and debris from entering the intake manifold to the cylinder head connection.
On older vehicles and engines, these are usually flat gaskets made of paper or similar composite materials, or may occasionally be a multi-layer metal gasket. On newer vehicles, they are often made of rubber or similar elastomer materials. An engine intake manifold gasket may be a single-piece part that will seal all of the intake runners to the cylinder head or a singular gasket that is used multiple times on a per-cylinder basis. The color, shape, and materials can vary depending on the brand, manufacturer, and application, but are often orange and orange/brown, or green.
It is common practice to replace the engine intake manifold gasket any time that you have the intake manifold removed from the cylinder head. This ensures that when you assemble the intake system, it is free of leaks or other issues. This is especially important on turbocharged or supercharged engines that have positive manifold pressures above the atmospheric pressure.
- Air leaks: Over time, your intake manifold gasket will degrade because of heat, vibration, and exposure to oils and other solvents. Paper or composite gaskets can begin to break down and chunk apart. Rubber gaskets can become hard and brittle. This can let dirt and debris in but is more likely to cause an air intake flow fault or CEL.
- Swelling / Damage from external sources: Cleaners, solvents, and other chemicals such as brake clean can cause rubber and other elastomers to swell and cause issues.
- Loss of elasticity: Eventually the rubber or material will harden and lose its elasticity, eventually becoming brittle and easily damaged. These gaskets will appear completely flat and will not reseal at all if they are reused.
- Check Engine Light: Excessive unmetered air from a bad intake manifold gasket can result in a CEL for an air intake leak fault or other airflow-related diagnostic trouble codes.
- Misfire: A severe air intake leak can cause rough running and an engine misfire.
- Oil residue: Because the positive crankcase ventilation system feeds air that may oil vapor into the intake to be burned during combustion, it is common for a bad or failed intake manifold gasket to result in oil residue on or around the intake manifold.
About Elring
Elring was founded in 1879 by Paul Lechler. Elring “the original” is their trademark, because as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to so many automobile manufacturers, there is a chance Elring provided the original gasket. Elring is widely known as an OEM replacement provider of quality parts for European model vehicles. They are mainly producers of gaskets, seals, and other high end supporting components. With locations around the globe, Elring is already established as one of the greatest producers of parts for European vehicles including luxury makes such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo and many others. Elring – “Das Original”.
As an automotive supplier, ElringKlinger has become a trusted partner to its customers – with a firm commitment to shaping the future of mobility. Be it optimized combustion engines, high-performance hybrids, or environmentally-friendly battery and fuel cell technology, ElringKlinger provides innovative solutions for all types of drive systems. ElringKlinger’s lightweighting concepts help to reduce the overall weight of vehicles. As a result, vehicles powered by combustion engines consume less fuel and emit less CO2, while those equipped with alternative propulsion systems benefit from an extended range. In response to increasingly complex combustion engine technology, the Group also continues to make refinements with regard to gaskets in order to meet the highest possible standards. This is complemented by solutions centered around thermal and acoustic shielding technology. Additionally, the Group‘s portfolio includes products made of the high-performance plastic PTFE which are also marketed to industries beyond the automotive sector. These efforts are supported by a dedicated workforce of more than 10,000 employees at 45 ElringKlinger Group locations around the globe.
The Elring aftermarket brand offers an all-embracing package: original equipment quality, functional reliability, and premium, end-to-end service. This includes, for example, sales and technical training, service information, exploded-view drawings for trucks and vans, monthly newsletters focusing on engine sealing solutions, an online sealing compound wizard, professional installation videos, the Elring Academy, the training truck, and much more besides.
Original Elring products are acknowledged among dealers, mechanics, and customers around the globe. These products include cylinder-head and sealing systems, oil seals and valve stem seals, sealing compounds, and threadlockers as well as cylinder-head bolt and complete gasket sets – for full- and partial servicing.
