Product Information

Specification: 53 mm rod bearing shell, blue.

Rod bearings are a common wear component on BMW S85 and S65 engines. Excessive wear can result in severe engine failure if not replaced in time. Regular inspection and replacement are essential for preserving engine reliability and longevity.

Engine Connecting Rod Bearing
The connecting rod bearing is located between the connecting rod and the crankshaft journal. It ensures smooth crankshaft rotation while reducing friction and wear. These precision bearings are made from layered metals such as copper, lead, or aluminum alloys. They are designed to withstand high loads but act as sacrificial components, wearing out before the crankshaft sustains damage.

Engine Connecting Rod Bearing Failure Symptoms:

  • Knocking or tapping noise (“rod knock”): Deep metallic knocking from the engine, particularly noticeable under load or acceleration.
  • Low oil pressure: Increased clearance from worn bearings lowers oil pressure.
  • Metal shavings in oil: Bearing material may flake off and appear in the engine oil or on the magnetic drain plug.

About Genuine BMW

Genuine BMW parts are the same components used during factory production. When you order a Genuine BMW part, you're receiving the exact item sourced by BMW dealerships — built to BMW’s precise engineering and quality standards.

While BMW engineers each part, many are manufactured by well-known OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) such as Lemförder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, and Corteco. These parts may even arrive in their OEM-branded packaging, alongside a BMW logo.

Look for OE tags throughout our listings to identify direct from BMW components — helping you save without compromising quality. Visit our FAQ for more insight on OEM vs. OE terminology.
