Downstream oxygen sensors monitor exhaust gases exiting the catalytic converter. Unlike upstream sensors, downstream sensors are primarily used to monitor catalytic converter efficiency rather than directly adjusting fuel trim.

Oxygen Sensor
The oxygen sensor works with the engine control unit to monitor exhaust composition and emissions system performance. A failed downstream oxygen sensor can trigger a check engine light, although similar faults may also indicate catalytic converter issues.
