Product Information

Noticing oil leaking down the side of your BMW’s engine from the cylinder head area? A hardened or cracked valve cover gasket is likely the culprit. Over time, the rubber gasket becomes brittle and loses its sealing ability, allowing oil to escape and collect on your engine or exhaust manifold.

Engine Valve Cover Gasket
This gasket seals the top of the cylinder head to the valve cover, keeping oil and vapors inside the engine. It's usually made from rubber or elastomer materials that provide a flexible, compressible seal. Proper sealing requires the right torque and a clean mating surface during installation.

Common Valve Cover Gasket Failure Symptoms:

  • Aging: Hardened, brittle gasket from heat and time causes oil leaks
  • Physical damage: Over-tightening can crush or deform the gasket
  • Chemical degradation: Incompatible sealants may cause the gasket to fail
