Product Information
The CSF High-Performance Power Steering Cooler is a direct-fit upgrade for compatible BMW E8X and E9X models, including the BMW E90, E92 and E93 M3 equipped with the S65 V8 engine.
Power steering fluid temperatures can rise considerably during spirited driving, track use and repeated high-load steering operation. Excessive heat can reduce fluid performance and place additional thermal stress on the power steering pump, hoses, seals and other hydraulic steering components.
CSF replaces the factory mechanically bonded, low-efficiency core with a CAB-brazed plate-type design based on the company's air-conditioning condenser technology. The cooler uses a single-row, super-high-pressure 18 mm microtube containing four internal channels to improve heat transfer while maintaining a compact and durable construction.
A dual-pass, six-row layout provides an 83% increase in cooling surface area compared with the original unit. Laboratory testing performed by CSF demonstrated approximately 40% greater cooling efficiency than the factory power steering cooler.

Cooling Performance
The dual-pass configuration directs the power steering fluid through the cooler in two stages, increasing its exposure to the available cooling surface. The six-row plate design and multi-channel microtube construction help remove heat more efficiently than the factory mechanically bonded cooler.
Improved power steering fluid temperature control is especially beneficial during track driving, autocross, spirited road use and other conditions involving frequent or sustained steering input. Reducing fluid temperature can help preserve hydraulic performance and reduce thermal stress on the power steering system.
Supercharger and Auxiliary Cooler Compatibility
The cooler's increased height is positioned above the factory cooler location rather than extending downward. This design preserves space beneath the power steering cooler for compatible aftermarket supercharger heat exchangers, auxiliary coolers and other front-mounted cooling components.
Its 83 mm (3.27 in) overall height provides substantially more cooling surface while maintaining the lower clearance required by many modified E9X M3 applications.
Quality and Testing
CSF operates ISO-certified manufacturing facilities and supplies cooling components to automotive manufacturers in the United States, Germany and Asia. Its performance cooling products are manufactured using the same production standards applied to its original-equipment cooling components.
CSF cooling products are subjected to rigorous quality-control procedures that may include hydrostatic testing, vacuum-decay testing and lifecycle testing to verify sealing, durability and long-term performance.
Installation
The power steering cooler is designed as a true plug-and-play replacement and requires no cutting or permanent modifications. It accepts the original power steering oil-line connections, mounting brackets and air-conditioning condenser.
Professional installation is recommended to ensure correct positioning, secure hydraulic connections and proper clearance around the air-conditioning condenser, bumper and any additional front-mounted cooling components.
Important Notes
- Replaces BMW OE power steering cooler part number 17117522119.
- No cutting or modification of the factory mounting area is required.
- Designed to retain the original power steering lines, mounting brackets and air-conditioning condenser.
- Power steering fluid, hoses, seals and additional installation components are not included unless otherwise specified.
- Inspect the power steering hoses, fittings and seals during installation and replace worn or leaking components as required.
- Professional installation, correct fluid filling and a final leak inspection are recommended.
