You are driving around on a ticking time bomb if you have not serviced your BMW's automatic transmission. While BMW advertises lifetime fills, the reality is there is no such thing as a lifetime fill in anything. Just like your BMW's engine, your transmission relies on its oil fill for cooling and lubrication. You certainly wouldn't drive your engine for a lifetime on an oil fill, so why would you do so with your transmission?
Not only will servicing your transmission increase its service life but it will also ensure that it continues to perform its best. Signs that your transmission can benefit from a drain and fill service include laggy shifts, sloppy shifts, or extra loud operation.
This kit features an aluminum transmission pan conversion used on various 8HP-equipped BMW M models. It uses factory-style components to convert the transmission to a serviceable filter setup, so you do not need to replace an entire plastic pan at every service interval. The aluminum pan also provides improved heat dissipation and greater durability under demanding driving conditions. For future services, you can reuse the aluminum pan and replace only the filter kit using part number 24007855263.
Please note: the depth of this pan is the same as the original plastic pan. However, due to the cooling fins, clearance may be tight with the under-car shield in some applications. You may need to adjust the brackets, use flat washers, or install longer self-tapping screws to create additional clearance. In some cases, the undertray shielding may not fit with this transmission pan.
Transmission Service Kit
The transmission oil filter prevents harmful particulate matter from entering the transmission valve body and damaging valve body bores, solenoids, and other fluid passages. Foreign particles in valve body bores, solenoids, or passages will cause shifting issues. Some of these issues include delayed shifts, harsh shifts, or no gear engagement in extreme cases. Clogged filters can reduce fluid volume and flow in the transmission causing starvation of the transmission pump. This can be identified by an RPM-dependent whine from the transmission bell housing area. The transmission oil filter should be changed during any fluid service, and it is critical to replace the filter if major transmission components are replaced such as the torque converter, transmission pump, or transmission valve body.
