Wahler OE engine coolant thermostat designed to regulate coolant flow and help maintain proper engine operating temperature on compatible BMW applications. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed to promote faster warm-up. As coolant temperature rises, it opens to allow normal circulation through the cooling system.
A thermostat stuck open can prevent the engine from reaching proper operating temperature, which may contribute to poor fuel economy, reduced heater performance and increased emissions. A thermostat stuck closed can restrict coolant circulation and quickly lead to overheating and potentially serious engine damage.
Replacing a faulty thermostat helps restore proper coolant regulation and stable engine temperature. During installation, the bleed or jiggle valve should be positioned at the top where applicable to assist with proper cooling system bleeding.
