Sealed Power SPG-1 Green Plastigage is a precision clearance measuring material designed for checking the oil clearance between fitted engine components without requiring a micrometer or dial bore gauge. It is commonly used when installing or inspecting connecting rod bearings and main bearings during engine assembly and service.
A short section of Plastigage is placed across the bearing journal before the bearing cap is installed and torqued to specification. Once the cap is removed, the compressed width of the Plastigage is compared with the supplied measurement scale to determine the resulting bearing clearance.
SPG-1 is designed to measure clearances from 0.025–0.076 mm (0.001–0.003 in), making it particularly useful for precision engine bearing work where verifying actual assembled clearance is critical.

Important: Plastigage is intended for clearance measurement only. The journal and bearing surface should be clean and free of oil at the Plastigage measurement point, and the crankshaft should not be rotated while the bearing cap is torqued with Plastigage installed.
