Regular transmission service is critical—even though BMW advertises “lifetime” fill, there is no such thing. Your transmission depends on its fluid for both cooling and lubrication, just like your engine. For the best performance and longest life, periodic fluid and filter changes are a must.
This kit provides the essentials for a safe and effective drain and fill service, replacing the fluid in the pan and filter (but not the torque converter). A drain and fill is the safest service for these units—avoid using flush machines, as improper flushing can damage the transmission.
ZF recommends a service interval of 80,000 km (50,000 miles) or 8 years, whichever comes first, for all 6HP transmissions.
The transmission oil filter helps protect the valve body, solenoids, and internal passages from harmful contaminants, which can cause shifting issues and reduce transmission life. Replace the filter at every service, and always after major component replacement.
