This OE Bosch mass air flow (MAF) sensor accurately measures the amount of air entering your BMW’s engine, allowing the DME (engine control unit) to optimize fuel injection and ignition timing. It uses a hot film sensing element that maintains a consistent temperature—when air flows past it, the sensor calculates airflow based on how much electrical current is needed to keep the element heated. This helps the engine maintain precise air/fuel ratios across all load conditions.

Over time, hot film sensors can degrade due to contamination, heat, and age. When this happens, the engine may experience poor fuel economy, rough running, hesitation, or enter limp mode. Replacing a failing MAF sensor restores proper drivability and performance.
